If you have more than one VitalSource account registered under different email addresses, Customer Support may be able to help combine your accounts.
Account merges require review by Customer Support and may affect information associated with your Bookshelf account. Review the information below before requesting a merge.
I Have Multiple VitalSource Accounts
If you have multiple email addresses registered with VitalSource and would like to combine the accounts, contact Customer Support to request an account merge.
When submitting your request, provide the email addresses associated with the accounts you would like reviewed.
Support may need additional information to determine whether the accounts can be merged and which account should remain as your primary account.
What Happens When My Accounts Are Merged?
When eligible accounts are merged, one account will remain as the primary account.
Your eligible Bookshelf content can then be associated with the primary account.
However, some user-created Bookshelf information may not transfer successfully during an account merge.
Important: Notes, Highlights, and Flashcards
Before requesting an account merge, be aware that there is a possibility that your:
- Notes
- Highlights
- Flashcards
may not transfer to the new primary account as part of the merge.
You should consider this possibility before asking Customer Support to proceed.
Acknowledgement of the potential loss of notes, highlights, or flashcards is required before an account merge can be completed.
Which Account Will Become My Primary Account?
When requesting a merge, Customer Support may ask which email address you want to use for your primary VitalSource account.
Be prepared to provide:
- The email address for each VitalSource account involved
- The email address you would like to use for your primary account
- Any additional account information requested by Customer Support
Support will review the accounts before completing the merge.
I’m a Bookstore Representative Requesting a Merge for a Student
If you are a bookstore representative requesting an account merge on behalf of a student, the student must first be informed that their notes, highlights, or flashcards may not transfer to the new primary account during the merge.
The Student Has Been Informed
If you have confirmed with the student that they understand the potential loss of notes, highlights, and flashcards, contact Customer Support with the account information needed to review the merge request.
Be prepared to confirm that the student was informed of this possibility before the merge was requested.
The Student Has Not Been Informed
If the student has not been informed about the potential loss of notes, highlights, and flashcards, do not request the merge on their behalf.
Have the student contact VitalSource Customer Support directly at:
https://bookshelfsupport.vitalsource.com/
The student can then review the account merge requirements with Support before proceeding.
Can All VitalSource Accounts Be Merged?
Account merge requests must be reviewed by Customer Support before any changes are made.
Depending on the accounts and access associated with them, additional review or information may be required before Support can determine whether a merge can be completed.
Do not make changes to the email addresses associated with the accounts while an account merge request is being reviewed unless instructed by Customer Support.
I Use One of My Accounts for Faculty Sampling
If one of the accounts involved in the merge is associated with Faculty Sampling, let Customer Support know when requesting the merge.
Faculty Sampling access may be associated with the specific email address that was reviewed and approved for sampling. Because of this, an account associated with Faculty Sampling may require additional review and may not be eligible to be merged or changed in the same way as another VitalSource account.
Do not change the email address associated with your Faculty Sampling account in an attempt to combine your accounts.
Customer Support will review the accounts and determine what options are available.
I Don’t Want to Merge My Accounts
You are not required to merge multiple VitalSource accounts.
If you prefer to keep your accounts separate, you can continue signing in to each account using its associated email address and password.
Changes to the password or sign-in information for one account do not automatically change your other VitalSource accounts.
Ready to Request an Account Merge?
Contact Customer Support and provide:
- The email addresses associated with the accounts you want to merge
- The email address you would like to use for your primary account
- Whether either account is associated with Faculty Sampling
- Confirmation that you understand that notes, highlights, and flashcards may not transfer to the new primary account
Customer Support will review the accounts and determine whether the merge can be completed.
